Resumen

Propósito: En el presente trabajo se indaga acerca de los principales indicadores de la satisfacción con la vida en personas mayores participantes de programas universitarios en España y Costa Rica.

Método: Se emplea un diseño panel y se analiza el primer tiempo de recolección de datos.  La muestra fue constituida por personas mayores de 55 o más años que estaban cursando estudios en diferentes centros de formación adscritos a la Universidad de Valencia en España (N=652) y a la Universidad Nacional en Costa Rica (N=272). Los datos fueron recogidos mediante un cuestionario con variables sociodemográficas, indicadores de participación social, Cuestionario de Apoyo Social Funcional Duke-UNC-11, Escala de Red Social de Lubben LSNS-R, Escala Temporal de Satisfacción con la Vida, Escala de Salud Percibida SF-8 y un indicador de satisfacción global. Se realiza análisis descriptivos, análisis correlacionales y de regresión lineal.

Resultados: Las variables medidas mostraron correlaciones significativas con satisfacción con la vida presente en ambas muestras. La salud autopercibida muestra correlaciones positivas y significativas con apoyo social funcional y red social, pero no con participación social -en la muestra española- mas sí correlaciona en la muestra costarricense. Las variables que mejor predicen la satisfacción con la vida con un 23% de varianza explicada en la muestra costarricense fueron la red de apoyo, el apoyo social afectivo y la percepción de la salud. En la muestra española, el mejor modelo explica un 23% de la varianza, y como indicadores se presenta la salud autopercibida, la red social y la participación social.

Conclusiones: En ambos países, se evidencia correlaciones significativas entre la satisfacción con la vida, con los indicadores de red de apoyo, apoyo social, percepción de salud y participación social. Se analiza los resultados a la luz de los indicadores de la participación social, el aprendizaje durante la vida y el envejecimiento con éxito.
