Resumen
El presente ensayo examina el debate acerca de la necesidad de tener prácticas médicas y salubristas, sustentadas en evidencia. A partir del cuestionamiento a visiones predominantes que interpretan este concepto en términos cuantitativos (ligada al uso de datos estadísticos, efectuados en la epidemiología tradicional), se aboga por incorporar una visión cualitativa capaz de complementar la información requerida en el espacio clínico y el de la salud pública (especialmente, en contextos sociales signados por la diversidad cultural). El bienestar de la sociedad se encuentra condicionado por un mundo sociocultural, complejo, cuyo entendimiento requiere echar mano de un abanico de saberes propios de diversas disciplinas del conocimiento, así como metodologías que permitan generar y articular visiones que den cabida a métodos cualitativos y mixtos.
