Abstract
In this portrait the figure of the historian Rafael Obregon Loria, Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of Costa Rica, National Culture Award Magón, Honorary Doctor of the University of Costa Rica is studied. Aspects of his personality are highlighted as the foremost historian of republican history of Costa Rica, and his footprint as a prolific scholar, researcher and publisher of national history, university academic, teacher, trainer of new researchers and historians, a generous human being, exemplary citizen and patriot and the values that guided its personal, academic and Masonic life are discussed.
