Abstract

This paper analyzes Toni Morrison's novel Sula from the joint perspectives of feminism and African-American women's writing. It attempts to explore, using a New Critic approach, the undeniable presence of the forces of love and death throughout the narrative in the specific context of the protagonist's relationship with others and with herself.
