Innovation from the research projects of the School of Library and Information Sciences: the creation of the RDA Costa Rica Group

Abstract

The essay presents the process of creation of the RDA Costa Rica Group, which arose as a result of the research project between the University of Costa Rica and the National System of Libraries (SINABI) for which an institutional agreement was signed between the University of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Culture and Youth. The objective of the project is to diagnose the use and application of RDA standards in the bibliographic and authority records of SINABI and Costa Rica's public-state university libraries. It is expected that this project will have an impact at the national and international level, promoting cooperation and the creation of guidelines and policies for the implementation of RDA in Costa Rica's information units. In addition, the project proposes the creation of the RDA Costa Rica Group as a space for collaboration and training for librarians interested in improving bibliographic description processes. The group will focus on promoting the appropriate use of RDA, promoting international standards and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and experiences. The phases of the RDA Costa Rica Group's work plan are detailed, including the establishment of the group, research and training, development of policies and procedures, and implementation and follow-up. Among the main conclusions is that the formation of the RDA group is expected to strengthen cooperative cataloging in the country, improving the quality of bibliographic records and promoting greater access to information in Costa Rica.
