Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted will be reviewed initially by the Editor-in-chief to assure that the article follow our scope, complies with author guidelines and for plagiarism checker. In case of any non-fulfillment, the Editor-in-Chief can decide to return the manuscript for their respective modification, or to Reject the article without appeal.

Once this first phase is completed, the articles are submitted to an evaluation process called "double blind" which is made by national and international experts outside the journal. The autors do not know who the reviewer is, and the editors and reviewers do not know the authors. The Editor-in-Chief assigned the article, in a double-blind manner, to an Associate Editor, a member of the Editorial Board and two external evaluators of our International Scientific Board or a external evaluator with expertise in the field.

Based on the peer-review reports, the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor decide following the next criteria:

• Article accepted

• Article accepted with minor changes

• Article is suitable for publication prior major changes

• Article rejected.

The second draft is overview by the Associate Editor in order to guarantee that the authors made the requested modifications. Therefore, in case that the author (s) decides to appeal any changes, the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor would consider their statements. Finally, the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board has the final word on acceptance. The entire process delay in about 3-8 weeks. Take in consideration that our reject rate is approximately of 55%

ODOVTOS , as an Open Access publication, allows that the articles, in their editorial version, to be archived on different resources available on the web and the institutional repositories after their online publication.

Publication ethics and Malpractice Statement

Odovtos -International Journal of Dental Sciences publishes articles in all fields of Oral, Craniofacial and Dental Sciences. If plagiarism is detected, our journal will follow the information provided by COPE in the next link: http://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts

Scientific misconduct includes but is not necessarily limited to data fabrication; data falsification including deceptive manipulation of images; and plagiarism. When scientific misconduct is alleged, or concerns are otherwise raised about the conduct or integrity of work described in submitted or published papers, the editorial board would initiate an appropriate investigation and may choose to publish an expression of concern pending the outcomes of those procedures. If the procedures involve an investigation at the authors’ institution, the editor should seek to discover the outcome of that investigation, notify readers of the outcome if appropriate, and if the investigation proves scientific misconduct, publish a retraction of the article. There may be circumstances in which no misconduct is proven, but an exchange of letters to the editor could be published to highlight matters of debate to readers.

In cases proved of misconduct, a retraction would be necessary. The retraction and original article would be linked in both directions and the retracted article would be clearly labelled as retracted in all its forms (Abstract, full text, PDF). The text of the retraction would explain the reasons of retraction and include a complete citation reference to that article. Retracted articles would remain in the public domain and be clearly labelled as retracted. All this procedures would be executed according to ICMJE http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/publishing-and-editorial-issues/scientific-misconduct-expressions-of-concern-and-retraction.html.
